ESOL courses offer you an exciting opportunity to improve your English in a variety of real-life situations. As well as having access to the College enrichment programme, ESOL learners will have the opportunity to go on a variety of visits, including museum trips and visits to Central London and Southend.

What next?

At the end of the course you can progress to the next level. When your English is strong enough you will have the opportunity to progress to vocational courses, whilst continuing to receive English support.

Seventeen year-old Gustavo Adolfo Diaz moved to the UK from Venezuela in 2011. After studying at Redbridge College he hopes to progress on to university and a career in politics.

Gustavo’s progress at the college also saw him win an ESOL curriculum award at the college’s annual Student Awards ceremony in 2012.

Gustavo says: “My English has improved 200% since enrolling at Redbridge College. When I first moved to the UK my standard of English was very poor but now it has improved so much. I’m still improving every day.

“The teachers at the college are very kind and really care about my education – they are the best. There are lots of interesting things to get involved in and I am very grateful for everything the college has done for me.

“I’ve also made lots of friends – not just from my own country or this country, but from all over the world. It’s helpful to share knowledge and experience with other people.

“In the future I want to go to university and study to be a politician. I think that I could make good decisions to help people, but I know to have that opportunity I need to gain good English skills first.”

Eighteen-year-old Wilson Filipe Silva won an ESOL curriculum award at the Redbridge College’s annual Student Awards ceremony in 2012.

When he first enrolled at Redbridge College in September 2011 Wilson was unable to speak any English.

Now, just 12 months on, Wilson’s English has improved so much that he has enrolled on a full-time Science course.

Wilson says: “My teachers have really supported me and encouraged me to be the best I can be. I’ve made so much progress.

“What I have enjoyed most is the friends I have made and the trips, like swimming and ice-skating.

“Next year I will be studying BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Science. I’m looking forward to it so much.

“I would love to be able to work in a science laboratory one day.”
