Course Description 
Get qualified to junior stylist level with this practical, intermediate course. You'll learn the theory and techniques used to create stunning and fashionable hairstyles, gaining experience and achieving a NVQ Level 2 qualification.

Learners studying Hairdressing courses at Redbridge College have the benefit of training at the college's Evolution salons. Supervised by our highly-trained and experienced teaching staff, you'll develop new skills and learn client procedures in a real-life working environment. Past learners at the college have set up their own hairdressing businesses and even opened their own salons.

How long is the course and when will it start?: 
This is a full-time one-year course starting in March.
What are the entry requirements?: 
You will need to have achieved three GCSEs at Grade D or above, or equivalent.
What will I study?: 

Units you will study include:

  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Change hair colour
  • Style and finish hair
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Attach hair to enhance a style
  • Fulfil salon reception duties.

Functional skills:
You will also study English, Maths and IT to support your main course, where appropriate.<?xml:namespace prefix =" o" ns =" "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"" /><o:p></o:p>

How will I be taught and assessed?: 
You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of Hairdressing staff in the college's Evolution salons. Practical assessments take place throughout the year on paying clients. During the course you will produce a portfolio of evidence containing practical and theory work.
Equipment and resources: 
You will need to purchase an Evolution uniform and a full hairdressing kit. Full details will be provided on enrolment.
Progression and career opportunities: 
On successful completion of this course you will be qualified to work in the industry as a junior stylist. Alternatively, you will also have the option to further enhance your skills and knowledge by progressing on to a NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing qualification at Redbridge College.
