What our students say:
Chih Hung Ku achieved A* at GCSE Maths, A at AS level Maths and a Triple Grade Distinction in his BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science and has now progressed onto University College London, where he will be studying Pharmacology for 3 Years.
"I received a lot of support from the staff at Redbridge College and worked really hard throughout the year to complete all my assignments on time, I also started revising for my exams well before they started."
What our students say:
Matthew Chilvers, 17, Redbridge College, Level 1 Diploma in Painting & Decorating.
"When I finished my GCSEs I stayed on at my school’s sixth form because a lot of my friends were there. However I had started off badly in school and despite trying to turn my studies around, I had the same teachers over the years and they had already made up their mind about me. Going to college was a chance to get a fresh start and escape my reputation. You are not spoon-fed everything at college, you are expected to take responsibility for yourself and you are treated like an adult – this suited me a lot better.
I started off doing the Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations, which gives an introduction to all the different areas you can specialise in, such as painting & decorating, bricklaying and carpentry. I passed the course with credit, and got the highest score overall in my group – not bad for a student who was considered a failure at school!
After talking with my tutor about my options, I decided to specialise in painting and decorating, as I enjoyed that the most. Each student has their own bay in the construction department, and over the course of the year we use that space to practice the techniques we learn – abrading, painting, cutting into tight space and angles, wallpapering and so on. After this I’d like to progress onto Levels 2 and 3, and maybe consider university in the future – my ultimate ambition is to become a Site Manager.
The course is very good and my tutor, Andy, is friendly, light-hearted and happy to spend time with me going over anything I’m not sure about. Redbridge College is even better than I expected, and the excellent enrichment programme here means I get to play on a football team with other students, which I really enjoy."
