This week I finally completed my UCAS application form, including my chosen universities (Queen Mary University, City University, Thames Valley University, University of Westminster and Middlesex University), my current education and qualifications and my personal statement which my personal tutor will now proofread before it is sent off. I personally feel like I have mixed emotions towards university as I am happy that I’m finally going onto university and studying an exciting subject that I am interested in but also quite scared to be taking a big step onto a completely new level where I don’t know anyone or anything about the place.
Monday gave me a boost as I got a lot of my coursework done with the help of my teacher Ernest - his presentation on signal theories helped me to complete my assignment on data transmission giving an explanation on synchronous and asynchronous data – all part of the jargon of the IT world!
On Wednesday I took part in basic baking as part of the college’s Enrichment programme. I made fairy cakes which, surprisingly, were not uncooked or over done. I had a lot of fun working alongside other students and being creative in the kitchen.
Thursday was an important tutorial lesson as we had a visitor from Connexions come in to give the group advice on their future plans for university. This was very useful as a lot of us are going onto higher education next year. The students asked questions about tuition fees, halls of residence to stay in and the best course to choose – the Career Advisor provided individual recommendations for each student.
On Friday I attended a student council meeting with other representatives in which we discussed events occurring within the college and the new changes being made such as more direction signs so students know which way to go to get to their classes and more laptops for students’ use. The college has organised a Christmas Ball for students at the end of term and I will not be able to resist buying a ticket as I, Dinesh, Zayn and a bunch of friends from class have decided to go as a group.
It’s that time of year again when I have to do all my Christmas shopping. It seems to me figuring out Christmas presents for the family gets harder each year but one thing I look forward to is the delicious dinner on Christmas Day with my family. Luckily for me I can have more than one Christmas dinner this year as Rouge Restaurant, within Redbridge College, are offering festive meals every Wednesday and Thursday evenings throughout December.
In the next week I intend to study really hard as all work must be submitted before the Christmas holiday. I look forward to updating you again before the Christmas break!
