Inspirational student scoops Young Citizen award!

Lavinia ScottRedbridge College student Lavinia Scott has won the December Recorder/Rotary Young Citizen competition.

Lavinia who is studying for a national diploma in graphic design, wowed judges with her tireless efforts to positively enhance the lives of others through an exhausting array of volunteer work.

Lavinia lends a hand in the befriending and social activities organised by children’s charity Barnardo’s Indigo Project. She is also a member of the Redbridge Youth Opportunity Fund and helps the Council for Disabled Children. On top of that, she has made a short film about young carers, plans another about self-harming and recently secured an internship with Barnado’s.

With bags of energy Lavinia doesn’t plan to stop there. She said, “I’m really pleased to have won. It’s a shock as I didn’t expect it. I never get tired of all the things I do and am looking forward to more to come”.

Lavinia has continued to reach new heights of achievement and plans to meet Ed Milliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, following an event she helped to organise for the Council for Disabled Children.

The Young Citizen competition, run by Redbridge Rotary Club and the Recorder Group, is open to people aged up to 25, who have made a major contribution to their community, family or the wider world.
