Jack Petchey Awards for Top Students
Four students have been rewarded for their efforts in the latest round of Jack Petchey Awards at Redbridge College.
The awards, which celebrate those who overcome challenges and are a good role model to their peers, are given out to students at the College every month. Each winner receives a certificate, medallion and a cheque for £200 to be spent on anything that will benefit their experience at college.
The winners for December are Jevon Thompson, Anastasjia Stolincya, Riyan Syed and Simon Marlow. They were given their awards by Redbridge College’s Principal Theresa Drowley in a presentation yesterday (19 January).
Jevon Thompson is studying on the BTEC National Diploma in Business. He was nominated for always giving 100% and his outstanding ability to help others.
He said, “I am very proud to have won this award, it really feels like I have accomplished something great.
“I am enjoying studying at Redbridge College and the course I’m on is a really good. It is a very detailed. In the future I want to work in the area of immigration in airports so my next step will be to go to university to study law, and specialise in social policy.
“With the £200 I would like to arrange a trip for my classmates. I would like to include those studying on the Certificate course as well as the Diploma, and intend on speaking with my tutor to decide where we can go.”
Anastasjia Stolincya is studying on the BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology. She was nominated for her perseverance and ability to rise to challenges. Anastasjia is the only girl is a class full of boys. She doesn’t let it faze her and she has actually gone on to overtake them with her achievements and grades.
She said, “I’m really grateful to have won the Jack Petchey Award; it is a big honour. Being noticed for my work and commitment has given me the motivation to keep up the hard work. I really didn’t expect to win. I am planning on saving the money for something special for either my classmates, or maybe a new instrument for the college. I like the idea of a new microphone.”
Established in 1999, the Jack Petchey Foundation gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11yrs-25yrs.
