Course Description

This is an ideal programme for those interested in progressing in a career in sports coaching leadership. It is delivered through football with all students taking the F.A. Level 1 Coaching Award as an introduction into coaching. This will include Emergency Aid and Child Protection. You will complete a CRB check, this is because part of your course is based on work experience in local Primary Schools and Football Camps that we run together with Football 1st Coaching Course.

What qualifications do I get?

You will study:
NVQ Level 2 Football Sports & Recreation
F.A. Level One Certificate
F.A. Child Protection Certificate
F.A. Emergency Aid Certificate
Multi Skills Club Programme
Adults other than Teacher Working in Schools - Workshop Attendances Certificate

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will involve a combination of observations of practical tasks and oral/written assessments of theoretical knowledge. You must collect a portfolio of evidence.
At Levels 1 and 2 key skills consist of a portfolio and an on-line test.

What standards do I need in order to join the course?

You need to have a keen interest in sports coaching and leadership. We require from all candidates a school reference detailing their ability to be a good role model and sports leader, in addition to this a total commitment to the programme in terms of attendance and punctuality to achieve success in full. You must have 3 GCSEs at D or above including Maths and English or a Level 1 qualification or be assessed to Level 1.

What will I study?

The programme is based and delivered through the medium of football all of which are generic to other sports coaching.
You will study:
Plan and prepare a series of coaching sessions,
Maintain an environment in which participants can improve their performance,
Coach participants to improve their performance,
Evaluate Coaching Sessions and develop personal Coaching practice,
Deal with accidents and emergencies,
Support the protection of children.

Vocational Study Skills:
16 - 18: You will also study English, Maths and ICT to support your main course.
19+: You may study one of the vocational study skills if appropriate.

What equipment will I need

You will be required to buy the college sports clothing provided by Umbro International Stationery for everyday use.

Successful completion could lead to higher sports related qualifications at the College.

Vocational Study Skills:
Vocational Study Skills: Developing the vocational study skills of English, maths and ICT is crucial to your success on this programme and future career. Employers and higher education institutions now also recognise the value of these additional qualifications and look for evidence of competence in applications and at interview. Level two vocational study skills qualifications will be recognised by universities as evidence of your competence in these subjects.

It is important that you have achieved vocational study skills qualifications at appropriate levels if you wish to progress to higher level courses at Redbridge College. Your skill levels will be assessed during the first two weeks of your programme and you will be assigned classes or workshops to help you develop these skills at the levels most appropriate for you. Attendance at these classes or workshops is compulsory for students aged under 19.
